Getting Started In Lightroom Classic
2 WEEK Small Group Workshop
WORKSHOP LESSONS WEEK BY WEEK
Week 01
Organization & Editing Essentials
This week's series of 12 video lessons introduces you to a simple start-to-finish workflow, including imports and organization, basic editing in the Develop module, and image exports.
Week 02
Creative Edits, Workflow Boosters, and Presentation
Let's explore the creative side of the Develop module! We'll take a hands-on approach to different editing styles, like light and airy, moody, film-inspired, and black-and-white. You'll also learn how to make your own presets, create slideshows, and more.
Dear Leslie,
your workshop sounds exciting. Will skin tones also be a topic?
Many thanks
Kristine
Hi, Kristine! Yes, I do discuss skin tones in some of the editing videos! Also, full participation students have the opportunity to ask questions as well as submit images for either feedback or to have me edit them, and in past runs skin tones have been a very popular discussion topic there. :) Hope that helps!
Oh yes, that helps! Thank you! Another question: what I’m particularly interested in is the creation of presets. Are we also discussing how to achieve consistency with different lighting conditions (indoor versus outdoor, for example). This is very difficult. Thanks ☺️
There’s a whole lesson on making your own presets (both edit presets and masking presets). Consistency in different lighting is not a separate topic, since that is more a general photography and lighting issue and not LR-specific, but I do talk some about ways to get correct white balance, and also correcting color casts.
Will this class be offered again?
I will be out of town for the majority of this 2 week run (not near my computer) so am wondering if there will be another offering this summer.
Thank you!
Hi, Janet! I don’t have exact dates but I am guessing it will! I’m sorry I don’t have more details than that right now but stay tuned!
I wonder if this would be a good one to take as a “study along” and work through it when I come back from my vacation? Thoughts? I guess I feel like this is my next logical step as a very beginner photographer who has Lightroom but has no idea how to use it-and don’t want to wait too long for another session to start! (I’m a teacher so summer is a good time for photography “stuff”!)
As a study along student you’d have access to all the materials to work through at your own pace – the only thing you wouldn’t get is personalized feedback and answers to your questions, along with the chance to have me edit your questions. But the trade-off is flexibility with the time commitment. Hope that helps!
Hi Leslie. Is this the newest version of the getting started with LR course & also using the latest Lrc version (13.2)? I’ve solely used ACR and PS for years. I feel like I need to learn LR for many reasons. I really need to have an understanding catalogs & best way to organize & safely save my client files– do you teach this as well?
Yes, Pamela, it covers all the latest features of LrC and the whole first week has mostly organizing and catalogs. I hope that helps! (And sorry I didn’t see your comment earlier, I’m not getting notifications for some odd reason!)
What is the difference between the full participation and the study along? Does the class meet at a designated day and time or is it self paced? Thank you!
Hi Crystal! There are not designated times for working on the class materials, for either – you can watch videos and read whenever it’s convenient for you. With Full Participation you do the assignments and receive detailed instructor feedback; you can also ask questions (and get answers), interact with the instructor daily and get feedback that way, and also chat and share with other learners. In this particular class there are daily checkins and opportunities to have me edit your photos and give my thoughts on anything you are working on, in. addition to two larger assignments. With Study Along, you only have access to the videos and written materials – no interaction or feedback. I hope that makes sense!
I have Adobe Photoshop Lightroom downloaded on my laptop. I think Lightroom Classic is designed specifically for desktop? Would this class work for me? Thanks in advance!
Hi Nicole! Lightroom Classic is absolutely available for your laptop as long as you are on a standard operating system (like Windows or Mac OSX).
I’m guessing the version you currently have installed is cloud-based Lightroom, which is a multi-device application that you can use across desktop and mobile as well as on the web. That version, however, doesn’t have all the same features that Lightroom Classic does.
Yes, my version is cloud-based. Thank you!
I’m so sorry but I do have one more question :D
Would this class still work for me even if I have a slightly different version of Lightroom? Thanks again!
Hi, Nicole! What version do you have? Is it definitely Lightroom Classic – not Lightroom? (The desktop icon will say “LrC,” not “LR”) The class does go into all the features of Lightroom Classic (not Lightroom) and as long as you are running a recent version, you should be fine. But if you’re running Lightroom Classic Creative Cloud, you should be able to update to the most recent version really easily.
Does that answer your question?
Hi! Just checked, my icon is “Lr.” Soo, I’m guessing this class won’t work for me?
Hi, Nicole, no, unfortunately, that’s not the same program and it’s different enough that you’d not get much out of the class. Lightroom Classic and Photoshop both come with the Adobe photography plan, though, and if you ever upgrade to that, this class is tailor-made for that version!
Will there be any upcoming instructor led lightroom classic workshops in the next month or two? Thanks! Alicia
Hi, Alicia! Not in the next month for sure, but you can sign up with your email address above to be notified when the next run opens! The dates have not yet been set, but it will run again sometime in 2024.
I have just completed the two week “ Getting Started in Lightroom Classic” with Leslie Crane and I can’t recommend it highly enough!
I have used Lightroom for years, and have had prior instruction, but I never managed creating an organised catalogue, I never had a useful and productive workflow, I felt overwhelmed with the tools Lightroom had, and I really gave up on hand editing. Instead, I would use presets, which I still believe are awesome, but having forgotten how to use the tools in each of the panels of the develop module (and some I’d never bothered to learn anyway), my tweaking of the presets was frustrating, and I didn’t feel satisfied I knew what I was doing.
I LOVE photographs, but the sheer number of unedited photos in my Lr catalogue really bothered me and impacted upon me even wanting to take photos.
I feel re-energised after this workshop. Leslie is a wonderful teacher – clear, instructive, took us through all the modules, and was encouraging of our own personal style in our edits. She is generous with her time, always responding to each question. I am so pleased I took her workshop and grateful to be inspired again. Thank you so much, Leslie!!
Lisa, thank you so much for this review! I am beyond thrilled that you feel inspired again; that is so wonderful to hear. I so enjoyed having you in class and I’m excited to see where your new skills take you!
This lightroom workshop is for EVERYONE! From the new photographer, starting their journey, to the seasoned pro, keeping up with all the new, latest and greatest updates Adobe is putting out, Leslie is there with you, with understandable, easy-to-follow explanations and examples. There is always something to learn from a fellow photographer as you watch their methods and workflow and Leslie shares so many great little nuggets and how-tos that I am tucking away in my notes and will be adding to my routines as I edit! This class is such a great value and you won’t be sorry you invested your time and money on it!
Thank you so much, Amy! What an honor to have you in the class. I’m so happy you got something out of it!
