Angela Douglas Ramsey is a mother, teacher, student and daughter. From an early age, she had a passion for documenting life through the lens of a camera. She believes art resides in the fleeting moments of everyday life. She documents her family’s story and explores identity through self portraits while also focusing on environmental issues in her hometown of Norfolk, Va. Angela has won several awards and has been featured in multiple magazines and exhibitions.
I’m a big fan of Angela’s work and always enjoy learning more about how she conceptualizes and executes her personal projects. This course was incredibly enlightening and I now have new goals for 2022!
I have been following Angela’s photography projects for years. Her self portrait series created during the pandemic is especially poignant. When I saw she had created a course on developing and creating photography projects I immediately signed up. I have had a few photography project ideas swirling around in my brain for quite some time but I seem to always hit road blocks and fail to complete them. Taking this course has given me the motivation, inspiration and hands-on tools to be successful at project completion from start to finish. From the detailed PDF to the printable workbook, as well as informative and insipiring videos, along with Angela’s masterful teaching skills, this course has given me all of the tools I need to bring my projects to completion. I’ve been a fan of Angela’s personal projects for years, so when I saw she had created on a course I jumped right in! Her detailed guide and workbook lead you from brainstorming to creation and all the steps in between. In addition to offering guidance on how to get started with a personal project, she offers tips and examples for applying to funding, writing a descriptive statement, and knowing when a project has come to an end. Angela’s organized approach takes the fear and uncertainty surrounding getting started with personal projects disappear.
I’ve admired Angela’s work for several years, and always been in awe of her ability to put together a huge variety of personal projects. I have never been able to stick with anything other than a 365 project, so couldn’t wait for this course to come out! She has shared so much knowledge, from defining different types of projects to describing how she brainstorms ideas and executes them to bring her ideas to reality. Seeing how this all comes together for her has helped me so much already – I love how she walks you through how to come up with a project and plan it out. I’m finding the course workbook really helpful – I’m starting to get my ideas down, organize them, and come up with a plan to actually make my project happen. I LOVE the structure of this class! Having a printable workbook to fill in as you go through the material is so valuable. It gives you a hands on portion and makes you get thoughts to paper which is often such a hard part of developing a project. Angela is fantastic and gives many different perspectives with the variety of interviews included as well. This is a must have class in my opinion for any photographer wanting to dive deeper and find meaning in their work through projects.

I was so excited when I saw that Angela created a course on personal projects, it’s been something that I’ve been wanting to start but really found myself stuck. After taking another class with her, I jumped at the chance to learn from her again. She’s an amazing teacher, with an incredibly creative mind. I have been a returning student of Angela’s for many years and when I found out her Personal Projects course was on release, I couldn’t pre-order any faster. Angela’s gift, aside from her artistry and brilliantly creative mind, is her ability to teach both straight-forward and complex (ie, abstract, conceptual, etc) photography concepts in practical and clearly defined ways. Her extensive knowledge on the technical side as well as the historical and theoretical sides allows her to cover and uncover many revealed and hidden nooks and crannies in a lesson, and leaves you feeling inspired and pumped to go out and make more photos. Angela’s lessons are invaluable and at this price, there is no reason to not take advantage of this opportunity.
