A MUST HAVE class!! Video intimidates me a TON and Sarah does an amazing job at breaking down everything about learning video in really easy steps! I have only begun to get started and cannot wait to learn more and experiment! And who doesn’t want to see and learn more from Sarah who’s videos bring so much joy? It is a steal!

    1. Oh my goodness. Thank you! I am blown away by the group of incredibly talented women who are participating in this and so grateful to you. xxx

  2. Awesome Breakout! Sarah shares so many great tips! I’ve played around with video prior to the course, but it was still very helpful in taking that next step and has really inspired me to keep trying!

  3. RUN, don’t walk, to purchase this class. I have some experience with filmmaking already – I took a far more expensive filmmaking workshop a few years ago, and I can tell you that this class has everything and MORE than that workshop had. This is a no-brainer if you want to learn how to make films for your family or clients. You will not regret this purchase, and you will treasure the films you will be able to start creating to document your days. Sarah is one of the best of the best at her craft, and she is a fabulous teacher! HIGHLY recommend this breakout!!

  4. First, after watching all the videos I want to be friends with Sarah! We really don’t live that far from each other, it could happen! LOL Seriously though, this class is great for people like me who know nothing about video but has also been a game changer for a bunch of my friends who already knew a lot about video! Sarah gets straight down to business so you can’t get straight into making your own video! So excited for all the memories she has inspired me to capture on video! Thanks Sarah!

  5. Sarah is a SUPERB instructor. I can’t think of anyone I would rather learn from! Her step by step instructions offer the confidence I need as a total novice. Thank you, thank you, Sarah for sharing your knowledge with us!

  6. This class is incredible ! Definitely part of my top 3 to date ! Sarah is incredible. She is an invaluable source of knowledge, she is talented, had an energetic and fun personality and she is very generous with her time and knowledge. This class is packed with information and hours of videos. There is everything in there: gear, camera settings, types of frames, transitions, stabilization, sound and music, how to prompt and direct your subjects, how to edit, etc.etc. Everything you always wondered about films but never dared to ask is in there. I am so glad I took this. Thank you Sarah !!

    1. Thank you! I am so glad you are enjoying it. And I am obviously loving getting to talk shop with all of you on the forum. It’s awesome!

This course is fantastic!! Not only was it easy to watch (Sarah is funny and entertaining) but they way she broke the information down made it easy to comprehend and enjoyable! This course provides sooo much information for learning video and for such a fantastic price!! Sarah’s work is beautiful and inspiring and in this course she gives away all of those amazing tips!

  8. Hands down one of THE best classes I’ve ever taken (and I have folders full lol). Incredibly informative, the materials and delivery are super enjoyable and easy to digest. Took the class and was able to put together a film that was halfway decent ;)

  9. You want to buy this Class for many reasons…
    1. You will finish the course confident to begin making beautiful family films for your family or for your lucky clients.
    2. Learning a new medium as an artist builds confidence and ignites your creativity.
    3. If film scares you….then you need to jump in and just do it!
    4. Sarah delivers the information with a perfect mix of humour, relatability, confidence and knowledge. You are going to learn a lot and you are going to have fun doing it.
Lastly….If you follow Sarah, or have had the pleasure of meeting her in person you will know that she is as hilarious as she is talented and watching and reading this breakout is like the perfect hangout with her.

  10. Fantastic class! Sarah has a great teaching style! She is both entertaining and knowledgeable which makes this a really great class to take! I highly recommend Sarah’s class if you are interested in video.

    1. All the editing I do is in premiere but most of the main principals transfer to final cut and other software. iMovie will be more limited in what it offers but the ideas behind the edit work regardless

  11. FUN and FABULOUS!!!! If you want to learn video and laugh out loud this is the breakout for you. I truly learned so much from Sarah. This is a terrific breakout!

  12. OMG this class is amazing !!! Sarah really knows a lot and shares alot. Great videos and so many!!! and a pdf. I am a novice and I know I have a lot to learn and practice and try and this breakout is getting me started . I am a grandma with a camera ( sony ) and will be making lots of family videos to share with my kids. They love them

  13. Sarah’s class is the sunshine I needed in my life during this time! I have wanted to make a film FOREVER and Sarah finally gave me the confidence I needed. Sarah is kind, she’s patient and best of all she’s FUNNY!!! This breakout is worth every dollar and 100 times more! If you’ve been wanting to make a film NOW is the time!

    1. Wow. Thank you so much Holly! And thanks fir being such an awesome contributor to our community! I’m loving this group!

  14. THIS is what I have needed in my life! I have been saying to myself, for literally a few years now, “I have GOT to learn how to do video”, but it was so intimidating and I just felt overwhelmed at learning ‘a whole new thing’. You guys – Sarah makes it SO FUN and so simple and is such an amazing resource for all things video. The creative process along with planning out what and how to shoot it is so exciting! – and then there’s the magic of editing! From setting up your camera to Premiere Pro (which is an absolutely amazing editing program and tool – your welcome Adobe) Sarah walks you through it all step by step AND gives you a front row seat to a family shoot and editing sessions to give you all the information and examples you need to get through shooting, putting together and editing your own clips, including how to add music to make you and/or your client’s memories and moments come to life! If you can’t tell, I am beyond thrilled and cannot recommend this breakout more highly. Millions of thanks to Sarah for such an informational, fun and hilarious couple of weeks!

    1. Millions of thanks to YOU for taking part and being so active in the community. I loved your cookie films! Can’t wait for more Amy!

  15. Sarah is such a complete joy! Her bubbly and dynamic personality makes her so incredibly engaging as a teacher, which in turn makes the learning an infinitely more enjoyable and easier process! This breakout was an emergency purchase as I agreed to record the children’s outdoor school nativity in lieu of parents being able to watch live. Talk about pressure! Thanks Covid. I went from knowing Zero, to being a playground Hero! I’m not quite ready to take on Hollywood but I had one Mum turn up on my doorstep with tears of gratitude, and so many messages of thanks. The thanks honestly goes to Sarah though!! Whilst the need wasn’t directly mine, the reward certainly has been! I encourage any photographer to take this course and use the record button on their camera. I’m looking forward to putting together clips of our Christmas Day, and many more special moments to come. Photos are incredible, but videos… they really touch your heart!! Thank you Sarah for making this door one I could actually open!! Camilla

  16. So excited about this class! I want to dive in, BUT I’m scared about the investment of Premier Pro. Is there another application out there? I’m just afraid now isn’t the time for the additional $20.99/mo :( :( :( :( :(

    1. While I do all my teaching on premiere, there are plenty of people using iMovie or other more affordable editing software. You can apply the editing basics in any program! Premiere just happens to be what I use so, zero pressure to use Premiere!

  17. Sahily del Risco

    This class has been GREAT!
LOVE Sarah’s personality! This is my second self-paced class and it has been fantastic! Hope to see more of her around here!!!

  18. HI I would love this course,
I am completely new to movies, is it suitable for me?
I still have time to do it? do I need to have knowledge on Premiere Pro?
I am not a member of Click Photo School and I saw is only for members.
Do I need to pay a membership?

    Thank you.

  19. Hi Jewel!

The live portion of this breakout will be available for purchase until 04/22/2020. If you purchase it by then you will also received the bonus materials. The platform it is running on will be open until 04/30/2020 for you to review everything and download the materials to reference back to in the future.

    1. As long as you camera has video capabilities, then you are good to go! Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sony, we are all in this together!

  20. This is a MUST HAVE breakout. Filmmaking can seem intimidating and yet Sarah breaks in all down in a way that feels accessible and fun. Her materials are beautifully organized and her sunny personality make the whole experience a complete delight!

  21. Sarah introduces you to filmmaking in a fun, simple, achievable way. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing in terms of video before this, and now I am hooked. Her personality and delivery keeps things light (and funny) and it was nice to hear her thought process as she edited. I never took a lot of videos – ahem, that weren’t on snapchat – before this, and I feel like being able to put together short videos of important events will be such a treasure for my kids some day. (Especially since they won’t have to sit through hours of reel!)

  22. I wholeheartedly recommend this breakout!! The info is broken into easily digested segments and Sarah’s personality makes learning super fun. I came to the breakout with some filmmaking experience already, and am still coming out with gold nuggets of info! Thank you! Thank you!

  23. This class is a MUST HAVE, whether you’re brand new to shooting video or not. I went into it familiar with video, but overwhelmed with the editing process (so I just avoided shooting!). From start to finish, Sarah gives a solid educational AND inspirational experience. I feel more confident planning out ideas, executing them, and putting it all together for a finished product. Sarah breaks down a full edit in Premiere Pro in a way that streamlines the process and makes the program seem so manageable. The amount of content that you get here is a steal!

Here’s a link to a video I created after the breakout, which just so happens to be my favorite I’ve EVER done!

    https://vimeo.com/405160076/7f9d9f8ed6

  24. Highly recommend Sarah’s film for photographers class. She delivers it perfectly and walks through every step! Easy to listen too with lots of giggles too! I have done a bunch of classes and I think this is my fave to date. Thank you Sarah, really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us all!

  25. Chelsey Schueller

Let’s not lie, Premiere Pro, is SCARY! Curating a film, is SCARY…. until now. Sarah’s attitude is so fun, upbeat, and lighthearted. She is super informative and takes the fear of learning everything away. Within three days of starting her class I made two videos about our quarantine (homeschooling, busy activities, etc..) with music, audio clips, speed ramping, and editing!!! Sarah is a gem and also, why wouldn’t you want to learn film?

    1. Yay! I love reading this almost as much as I’ve loved seeing all the incredible films people have been creating. It is AMAZING! Thank you for the kind words. I’m so happy you are loving the breakout!

  26. I’m so happy I took this breakout! I needed step by step guidance to figure out how to use video on my Sony a7Riii… this is exactly what I needed! Plus, learning from Sarah is an absolute joy. One of my fave breakouts to-date!

  27. Christine Hicks

I love this class! Sarah is so talented and funny. I feel lucky to know her IRL and on the internet.
    Highly recommend.

  28. I am absolutely LOVING this breakout !! I am working my way through (in the evenings when the kids sleep, b/c self isolation mom life with 4 kids at home is nuts) and learning so much !! Sarah’s natural way of talking & teaching makes it so enjoyable to watch & listen to her. She is funny & real & explains everything in a really understandable way !! Don’t even think about, buy this breakout right now !! My many double explanation points should really drive home how amazing this is !!

    1. Wow Sarah, THANK YOU! And you know hoe much I love explanation points!!! I really appreciate this and I am so glad to hear you are enjoying the breakout!

  29. If you have any interest in learning video (which you should) Sarah is without a doubt the best person to learn it from. Not only is she hysterical (which who doesn’t love a teacher that makes it fun right?) but she does such a great job explaining things so they are easy to understand no matter your level. I first learned video from her at her Click Away class and have made so many videos for both clients and personal since. Those personal videos are a treasure and I can’t imagine not having them to show my kids. They literally ask to watch them before bed every single night. That alone was SO worth learning video. I can only image how much I will treasure them one day. And this is all thanks to Sarah. Now with this Breakout I can brush up on stuff I already learned and have the videos to rewatch which is gold. And I get so many new nuggets of awesome info to take my videos to the next level. Highly recommend this! Sarah is a genius and the most willing-to-share-her-knowledge-with-others person I have ever met.

    1. Full disclosure – I LOVE TENLEY CLARK and while I didn’t pay her to say all these nice things, I certainly would have because it’s so sweet to read. I love you for taking the time to write this. For always supporting and championing you friends and for making kick butt videos (and all around amazing content). I love you and everything you create!

  30. Yeah, she is amazing, funny, kind, and talented! The best part is listening to her edit, its like stand up comedy and slow mo voices are the BEST! I have had more fun than anything and I cant believe I waited this long dive into film. She makes it easy to digest and fun! I just love her! You will too.

    1. Oh my goodness – Thank you! And slow mo voices are the BEST (or the worst when it’s my own voice – Ha). Appreciate your kind words!

  31. Thanks to Sarah I feel that I learnt a whole lot in the last 3 days. This is exactly what I needed for lock down and makes what would have been a challenging time interesting. So much information is put into learnable chunks. The best was the video going on a shoot with Sarah. She answers questions quickly on the forum. Great value for money!

    1. Thank you so much Simone! Love seeing your questions and getting to chat video together! So glad you are enjoying the breakout!

  32. Does it make sense to participate on the breakout without Premiere Pro? I would love to learn the basics to create a video.

    1. There is plenty of content leading up to the editing portion. You of course can apply the main principals of editing to any program you choose to use. So, it’s definitely not required. Thanks for the great question!

  33. I’m almost done with all the materials, and can I say, I LOVE this breakout?!? Best one I’ve taken in a long time–shh, don’t tell anyone else that though!
Even though I’m not new to filming/video on my camera, I learned more than I thought I would. A bonus is that Sarah’s fun personality adds so much to the materials! It was a joy to watch and learn from her, and I can’t wait to try out a few new things!

    1. Thank you Emily! I adore your films and I was so honored that you took the time to take this journey with me!

  34. I have been devouring Sarah’s breakout on filmmaking the past 2 days. This breakout is packed with information, both from a technical and a sensible perspective. It was so great to hear what the standards are, and then how Sarah shoots and why as a hybrid shooter. I especially love the detailed information provided on editing since this is such a huge part of making a successful film. Beyond all the material this breakout provides it’s an absolute JOY to listen and see Sarah present the information in such an upbeat and hilarious manner. Her love of her craft is contagious, and has sparked a renewed interest for me in documenting my own family with video.

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words! I am so excited to have you be a part of this breakout and cannot wait to see you Disneyland video!

  35. I hope you are enjoying it so far. It’s been so lovely to come together as a group and nerd out on Video!

  36. Yay!! The day has arrived! Super excited to dig in and learn all the things! My big boys home from college are going to freak out – I’m wanting to try to document some of the time they’ve been home! Sarah, you’re such an inspiration!

  37. Desirea Corbett

I’m super excited. I was just taking photos of my son and he asked me if I could take a video on the camera. I was like, “you know, I should be able to!” I don’t know if I can swing Premier Pro but I’m excited to learn more about making videos!!!

  38. I’d like to buy this to not only to learn video, but for the pure entertainment that Sarah will bring. However, I do not want to commit to subscribing monthly to premire pro, is there anything else that we could use to edit that we can purchase one time?

    1. Hi Kelli! I definitely understand not wanting to jump in to a monthly subscription to Premiere. I did get some coupon codes that will give anyone in the class a discount, but it’s still $25 a month.
I would recommend the free one week trial of Premiere just to play around and then by all means, you can take that editing knowledge and apply it in any program that suits you. I’ve seen awesome films edited with iMovie! It’s not about the software. It’s about the story!

    2. I didn’t want a subscription either so I went with Final Cut Pro. DaVinci Resolve is another option. You may have to watch a few YouTube videos to figure it out but mostly the editors will do the same thing. Don’t let Premiere Pro stop you from taking the breakout/learning video! There are definitely ways to get around that.

  39. I’m with Nina. I’m just taking it because of the panel discussion from Click Away! I feel like I’ve cobbled together some video skills over the years and have even taken classes on Premiere Pro, so I have a pretty decent background. But I am curious to see Sarah’s workflow and editing tips. Also, I’ve struggled with slo mo in PP so I’m hoping she walks us through that.

    1. Thank so much Amanda! I can’t wait to hear what you think! And incorporating slow mo is one of my favorite things to do!

  40. Hi Nina!

This breakout will launch on March 31st and run until April 15th for the live portion. The platform it’s running on will be open for a little bit after the 15th for you to download anything you would like to reference in the future.

  41. This breakout sounds awesome! With current events as they are I can’t afford upgrading to Premiere Pro. Do you know if Premiere Rush will be enough to work with?

    1. Rush is not going to have all the bells and whistles but they are sister programs so you should be able to transition everything you learn here easily into premiere rush!

  42. I have a canon 5D m2 I shoot with. Is that appropriate to shoot video with in your opinion? I’ve tried shooting with it but have trouble with the focus. Looking to enroll but would like to use my existing gear. For now I just use my g7x to make small video of my 8 mo at home :)

    1. You can totally shoot video with your 5D. You will not have the luxury of auto focus, but I learned on my Nikon D750 which forced me to master manual focus and taught me so much!

  43. Sarah, your promotional video looks so EXCITING that I am curious if you plan to caption the rest of your videos soon? Why? I am deaf and I am very very interested in taking your class!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!
Hope to hear from you soon!
    Best!
    Stacy Lawrence

    1. Hi Stacy! I actually have closed captions available on all the video portions!

We can certainly make those available to you and I’m thrilled to hear that you are excited about learning video!

    1. Hi Rosa,
You certainly don’t have to but I do have 3+ hours of editing videos where I use premiere pro. I would suggest taking the class at your pace, and once you are ready to edit something you’ve filmed try the free one week trial of premiere pro. I’ll be here to walk you through it and I’m happy to answer questions you may have!

  44. OOOHHH!!! I’ve been searching for a video class!!! Question: will this break out show how to shoot video clips during a photography session? For ex: family photo session, shooting both photos and switching to video from time to time. OR will it only teach you to shoot a family VIDEO only session?

    1. Hi Melissa! I am a hybrid shooter, so the whole beginning where I get you set up, I continually remind you how I like my settings to be able to quickly flip back and forth for photos and video clips. However, at the shoot along for this breakout I just shoot video, but I do walk you through how to pull stills from that video. There is a bonus edit of a senior session that I shot both photos and videos for and I can gladly show you the photos from that session. I shoot Sony these day, so there is no button to switch or special setting to change. I can shoot both my photos and videos in M mode and it makes it easy. However, if you are Nikon or Canon you will always want to remember to switch from video mode to photo mode on the back of your camera otherwise you images will be 16:9 and really tiny, terrible quality jpegs. I once accidentally shot an entire session in video mode on my Nikon early on and cried for days after.
So, longer answer longer, I address being a hybrid shooter quite a bit but at the family shoot, you will see me taking video since that is our focus. Hope that helps!

    2. Sarah! I was just sharing with Jason today how I need to learn some of this on my own and the whole thing feels overwhelming. I feel so much better knowing you will be my teacher! Best day ever and I’m signing up now. Miss you so much sweet friend. Can we please have the most epic play date after all this craziness!

  45. I’ve been looking forward to this class so much! I’ve followed Sarah for a few years now, after being in a class together. Not only is she so very talented at film making, she knows how to capture and express emotion. As much as I love my still photography, there is nothing like reliving your own family memories and especially giggles. Sarah is a ray of sunshine and I can’t wait to see her fresh take of film making.

    1. Oh my goodness Nancy. Thank you SO much for this. What a wonderful way to start my morning. Can’t wait to start creating with you all!

  46. Sooooo excited for this!!! Just shared with 5 of my friends. After seeing Sarah emcee the closing panel at Click Away, I’m taking it just to hear her speak. Oh, my gosh, my family is going to kill me for doing this during the quarantine, but <steeples fingers and emits evil laugh), they can run, but they can't hide.

    1. LOL Best. Comment. Ever.

You’ll be amazed at how much your family loves watching the final product. My 5 year old goes around telling people he’s a “Youtuber” hahaha
