  1. I’m brand new to indoor photography and have just purchased some camera equipment for off camera flash, and would like to experiment with studio photos. Is this the class for me? (Of course, I would love to learn to take self portraits as well!)

    1. Hey Carrie! I think this course would greatly benefit you! Majority of my BTS involves off camera flash. I provide examples to make it look like studio lighting and enhancing natural window light with the flash as well! In my Q&A I also go over setting up the flash and modifier. There are a ton of questions in the course about OCF asked by students that took it at the time of the live run. While going through the material, please reach out to me if you have any questions! I hope you will consider taking my course!

  2. I loved this class!! Self portraiture can be an intimidating endeavor but Alex does such a great job of simplifying the process. I loved watching her shooting and editing videos, especially the composite videos. I’m excited to get in the habit of spending at least 20 minutes per month to celebrate what I love about myself. Thanks Alex for such an inspiring class.

  3. Self-portraits are not my thing. I would much rather be behind the camera than in front of it. However, Alex’s class and her work has inspired me to push myself to try more self-portraiture. This course is packed with information to help you get started taking self portraits or to take these images to the next level. She reveals all her secrets and gives tons of tips and tricks in this course. Highly recommend!

  4. I have really enjoyed watching Alex’s course! She gives such a detailed look through how she sets the scene for each portrait. I love hearing her thought process on how she carefully crafts each detail of the images. And seeing her post processing portion has been helpful for improving my editing flow as well! She did such an amazing job with this course and I can’t wait to take another from her in the future! I can’t recommend this course enough!

  5. I have been a fan of Alex’s self portraits for a while. They simply amaze me. I could not wait to take this breakout. I was not disappointed. Alex has provided so much information and encouragement that I actually have self portrait ideas bouncing around in my head. I am so excited to try some more creative and fun self portraits. 6. This is such a fun and timely course. I have never been one to delve into self-portraits much, but stuck in quarantine and needing some sort of creative release, self-portraiture suddenly became something I wanted to learn more about. What I love about Alex’s approach is that she encourages you to explore the ideas and concepts that are unique to you. Her BTS methods are such a great creative launchpad to get you thinking about how you can explore your own ideas. Her editing videos are helpful not just for self-portraiture, but also if you have been wanting to delve into the fine-art side of composite editing. Such a great course–thank you so much, Alex!

  7. This class is wonderful. Alex is so approachable in her videos and really makes you feel like you CAN handle and make beautiful self portraits for yourself. I love her explanations of her BTS and why she does what she does, and then how that translates to her edits. It’s inspired me to take some new self portraits soon! I recommend this to anyone needing some “self care” and to refocus their photography on something fun!

I have learned so much watching her shooting videos, it is so helpful to get to see behind the scenes. I always feel so selfconscious while shooting selfportraits but this breakout has really inspired me to do think of new ideas and embrace seeing myself in photos. Alex is also a very gifted editor and shares a lot of her knowledge when it comes to making composites. Her editing videos are very easy to follow along and can be helpful for both beginners and more seasoned PS users. I love this class and I highly recommend it!

  20. Therese Kirchner

I highly recommend this self paced course! Alex does a great job showing you behind the scenes and editing, but she also teaches you how to effectively use your equipment! Her videos are very clear and her instructions are amazing, thrown in with some playful interaction with her young children. She really helps take some of the anxiety out of self portraits!

  21. My Own Muse is a must have for all photographers! Wherever you are on your photography journey, getting yourself into the frame is so important, and Alex’s approach to self-portraiture will give you the confidence to get yourself there. I absolutely loved this course. I have been doing self-portraiture for several years, but had fallen into such a rut, and haven’t put myself in the frame for quite some time. Reading through Alex’s pdf and viewing her instructive videos ignited the spark I needed to start thinking creatively about self-portraits again. She includes many behind the scenes videos, as well as videos showing her editing and composite creation process. 22. I am absolutely LOVING this course! its been so much fun and I can’t wait to try more self portraiture!
The drone video is soooo helpful (my husband has one.. well I think HAD lol, stealing it!) and definitely using it this weekend!
So many fun ideas! I started a note section on my phone for Portraits I would love to create.
Can’t wait to watch them all and create beautiful portraits and use it to make memories and connect with my girls ❤️

  23. It’s going to take me a while to get through all the amazing videos, and I LOVE that! There is so much helpful video content covering the self-portrait process from start to finish. Alex dives deep and provides a lot of information. It makes you want to take a day to follow along at home, step by step with your own concept. I really think there is something for everyone in the videos. For me, I can physically take a self portrait, but get so lost at compositing. Having Alex’s videos to learn from was really helpful! I’m inspired to try something new and have more fun with self portraits.

  24. This course is absolutely amazing! If you have thought about doing self-portraits before, this is the course for you. If you have never thought about trying self-portrait, then you definitely need to take this course even more!
I have been trying to do more self portraits as a way to get to know myself and get to be more at peace with myself as who I am this past year. This course is such a timely gift for me. I love all the content in the course and I have to say, it might sound silly, but the posing tips help so much for me to feel a lot less awkward in front of the lens. Also I love how Alex approaches the concept of self-portraiture. I definitely appreciate the fact that self portraits don’t have to be some grand production and they can be just little fun date with myself. Thank you Alex for this course.

  25. WOW! I just made my way through this course and i can’t believe how much i got out of it. Alex shows everything from her set ups to shooting tips to editing and even how to use timers correctly. During the editing videos she goes slow enough to follow along and i really appreciated that. She explains what different features mean in photoshop which sometimes overwhelms me. I loved learning about her creative process to better understand how she gets her inspiration for her self portraits. I knew her breakout would be good, but this has really really inspired me to get in front of my camera again. Thank you Alex, for showing your heart, your tips and your expertise! I will come back to the videos for years to come! One of the best things about photography is that there is always something new to learn, and in this course you’ll leave feeling inspired to learn and try new things. Well done Alex!

She takes the intimidation out of self portraiture, and shows how it doesn’t always have to be a huge undertaking . Her creativity shines through as she shares her project ideas, and she makes you eager to give it a try and jump in the frame. She covers everything from drone self portraits to posing and OCF, and her behind the scenes videos are amazing. I highly recommend this course, and am looking forward to exploring the self portrait genre more in-depth, thanks to Alex’s inspiration.

    1. Hey Cynthia! I do think this course is highly beneficial for photographers of all skill levels. I cover simple edits in Lightroom and I also have my Photoshop edits in a chronological order so that we take what we’ve learned form previous edits, and apply them to more advanced edits! I include two demonstration videos. One of which covers the 4 different ways to take a self portrait and nail focus, and the other is a posing demonstration video. My PDF also includes various exercises to help spark new ideas and relax you in front of the camera. I sincerely hope you will join me! I will be here during the live run to answer any questions you have along the way <3

  28. This course is amazing! I have always wanted to dig more into self portraiture but have found it to be intimidating and daunting. Always in awe of Alex’s work, she does a phenomenal job in this course of talking through her creative process of how you can easily conceptualize ideas. She really drives the idea that not every image has to be some big production and to just have fun with them. So many great takeaways, I am excited to start putting them into practice.
