about your presenter
Amanda Ruzicka is a part time newborn and family photographer and full time mama. She lives in the countryside of Wisconsin with her hard working hubby, two sweet little boys, two big fur babies, and a very personable fish. She loves going for hikes in the woods, campfires, pontooning on the lake, and any time spent together with her family.
Lori Pickens is married to her best friend Nathan and they are raising two crazy twin little boys and their sweet and sassy little sister in a small West Virginia town. Lori is a database geek by day, and a lover of all things photographer pretty much every other moment of the day. She has a quote in her office that says, “More ideas than time”, which pretty much sums up the theme of her life.
Amanda and Lori met when they were both looking for a roommate for Click Away 2018. They were paired up and realized they had so much in common. They started texting and talking every day, bonded at Click Away, and a wonderful friendship continues to grow to this day.
This is such an amazing course. Amanda and Lori literally covered all indoor lighting scenarios you will come across. The amount of useful information included in the pdfs is incredible. The behind scene videos are super helpful. I would highly recommend this course to anyone!

This breakout is an amazing value for money. As a passionate photographer launching in the family photography business, I find the amount of information perfect and I love the way it is presented in the pdf, super well written and illustrated with gorgeous photos. I just received a Profoto A1 for Christmas and I cannot even figure out how to turn it on consistency. Would this class help me with nitty gritty of the OCF?
Hi Erin! We cover mostly natural light and some alternative light sources (like table lamps, flashlights, etc.) but NOT flash. Michelle Turner teaches a great OCF workshop if you are interested in learning that more thoroughly.

Hi Erin! Congrats on the Profoto A1- so exciting! This class is geared towards natural light and we don’t get into using a flash. Keep an eye out for Michelle Turner’s workshops on flash. I think one just started but she may have another soon. :-)
Wow!!! I’m so blown away by this breakout!! I had taken the Understanding Light workshop last year and loved it but was intrigued to see if I could learn something new from this breakout. It certainly delivered!! There are some great ideas for light sources in here I never would have thought of previously! I can’t wait to try some of these new techniques. Yes, it did have a bit of overlap with other breakouts and the Understanding Light workshop but there was definitely enough new in here to make it worth the time and money. I’ve been eyeing light workshops for quite some time now, but they always seem to be out of my budget. I was so excited to be able to take part in this breakout, and let me tell you… it did not disappoint! So many of the questions that I’ve had about shooting indoors (specifically in low light) have been answered in this breakout. I cannot believe all the information on light that is covered in this course! The instructors give clear and detailed information to make the materials easy to understand and apply. Absolutely amazing breakout! One of the best I’ve ever done. Not only is it FULL of information, I mean literally SO MUCH for your money but the inspiration it gives you is incredible, I recently started a 365 and I can’t say enough about how much it has helped me. There is so much information provided. I really appreciated how they explained the different ways to use light for portraits, it really helped me better understand it to see the examples all in one place. Listening to their image critiques was fun, too. Sometimes I feel like everyone else has a house / kids that are perfectly set-up for photos so it was good for me to hear the behind the scenes comments (move this here, set this up there, block what’s happening there….). It encourages me to try more.

This is the first live breakout that I’ve done, and I can’t say enough good things about it. Amanda and Lori put a ton of work into the PDF and videos, and they are packed with insights about taking better indoor photos, editing, and much more. I’ve been working through the many exercises suggested in the PDF, and it is really pushing me to get creative and improve my indoor photography. In fact, by doing the exercises, I’ve captured some really special moments that I wouldn’t have thought to photograph otherwise.

I have to say this is one of my top favorite breakouts. I love how they started out doing zoom calls so that we could all see each other‘s faces. It really helped to know that there was a mix of people that were hobby and also business photographers. Seeing each other‘s faces for me makes asking for critique easier. There PDF was jam packed with Ways to get great photos in any indoor lighting situation! They also listed out different exercises for us to work on and I love that because it gave us a goal of things to work on! I can’t say enough this is truly one of my favorite breakouts! I am so happy that I took a chance on this one! I’m telling you I take it you will not be disappointed.

I was looking for a breakout session to take over the holidays (while I was on vacation from my day job) and the title grabbed my attention. Indoor lighting has always been a challenge for me and the course title caught my attention and I had to give it a try. This breakout is just packed with useful information, great teaching and really insightful ways to think of lighting inside. After just one day reading through the material and watching a couple of video’s I challenged myself to photograph inside with just my Christmas lights on and my opening Amaryllis as the subject. The results were stunning, the knowledge, inspiration and confidence to shoot more inside this winter has me very excited. Well done Amanda and Lori.

What an INCREDIBLE breakout this is! The PDF is like a one stop “how to shoot for everything ever” tutorial with so much in depth, pertinent and remarkably useful information. PLUS there are specific exercises that force one to actually DO the work they are teaching. And that is BEFORE I even talk about the videos they provide. Amanda and Lori obviously poured their hearts and their depth of knowledge into this breakout and it is mind-boggling how rich this experience is turning out to be. Buy this breakout! This breakout is a STEAL! I can’t believe the amount of valuable knowledge these two women have put into this breakout. The PDF alone is worth it. I really like that you can submit the exercises for feedback – it forces you to take our your camera and apply the lessons learned. I would HIGHLY recommend this breakout to any photographer who struggles to shoot indoors or who fears a higher ISO (this was me)! I will never compromise on SS or Aperture again! This breakout is AMAZING! I am always skeptical to buy breakouts, because I never know… is this for beginners, intermediate or advanced photographers? This breakout covers all of the above! I have watched several breakouts and never found the need to get out my notebook and take notes. With this breakout, I was taking all kinds of notes. They cover SO MUCH information! When I saw the pdf was 200 pages, I was shocked! Most breakouts around 100 pages, and I find a lot of the pages are pictures and the beginning takes up a lot of pages with their biography. With this breakout, they get right to teaching photography! I have found myself very disappointed that I spent money on some breakouts where I didn’t feel like I learned very much or there just wasn’t a lot of material covered, with this breakout you will NOT be disappointed! Thank you so much Amanda and Lori for investing SO much time into this breakout! I will refer back to it many times in the future! If I could only choose one breakout to buy, this would be it!

I cannot believe all the information packed in to this breakout. Not only do Lori and Amanda cover the basics but they give detailed descriptions and visual representations of each type of light you can capture indoors. From within your own home to spaces where you can’t control the light. This breakout is awesome for year round photographs both during the cold winter months and to capture the daily moments we don’t want to forget. There are also so many videos full of useful information. Definitely worth every penny.

I am excited to learn- I am currently stuck between my love of leaning and improving my natural light (mostly outdoor) photography but knowing I need to learn to figure out indoor and lighting which I loose interest in quickly. Being only able to do outdoor distance sessions here, and hitting a slow season, I’m excited to learn. Also feeling like I’m stretched too thin but also that I am not actually doing anything. This is the first day of the breakout, and I just downloaded the materials and dove right in. We are smack in the middle of winter here in central Illinois which means lots of shooting indoors over the next couple of months. I always get so tired of shooting indoors during the winter months and usually fall into a big rut…but not this year. This breakout is jam-packed full of information on finding and exploring the light in your home AND creating beautiful storytelling images with that light.
