I loved this breakout so much! I am such a huge fan of D’Ann and her work and she is so generous with her knowledge and expertise here. This breakout is packed with information from lighting to composition, clothing choices, so many editing tips and she even provides photoshop actions for you to download too. The photo examples D’Ann provides are all so incredible – they really show you how you can find magic everywhere if you look for it! One of the things I loved most about the breakout was D’Anns words, they were so beautiful and inspiring. It was so uplifting and thought provoking, actually made me feel quite emotional! Thank you D’Ann for this amazing breakout!

Mickie is such a gifted teacher, and really does a fantastic job of breaking down a fairly complicated program into bite-sized pieces that are easily digestible. If you feel intimidated by the beast that is Photoshop, this is the perfect class to take to help you understand it and incorporate it into your workflow. Highly recommend!

Robin’s Setting the Scene workshop was excellent – thoughtful, practical, and genuinely inspiring. As a huge fan of Robin’s work, I was really excited to learn from her. Her images are always so captivating, with layers of detail that draw you in and make you want to spend time exploring every part of the frame, so it was fascinating to gain insight into her process and approach.

The materials were incredibly thorough and clearly put together with a lot of care, making it easy to revisit concepts afterwards and continue learning at my own pace. What I appreciated most was how the exercises encouraged me to slow down and plan images more intentionally than I normally would. They really pushed me to think more deeply about colour, atmosphere, and storytelling before pressing the shutter, which was both challenging and rewarding.

The feedback throughout the workshop was also particularly thought provoking. It never felt prescriptive, but instead opened up new ways of seeing and approaching scenes that I’ll carry into my photography going forward.

I’d absolutely recommend the course to photographers of all skill levels – whether you are just starting out or have been shooting for years, there is so much to take away from it.

After taking photos for 20+ years, you feel like you know this stuff. I did NOT know this stuff! Understanding light is a great class. Karlee Hooper was an excellent instructor – encouraged questions, responded quickly, took her time with evaluations. The structure of the class is effective. I liked the reading material, videos, and assignments.

I took this class having a decent amount of experience with OCF in a studio setting, but kind of learning as I went with no formal training. This class was SO helpful! I learned a lot and really found Megan’s feedback so helpful. She breaks everything down in depth and I love that with the format of this class you’re building on steps as you go. I also finally felt confident enough to take my OCF outside… which I had never really done successfully before. This class is great if you’re wanting to really better understand OCF! I’m so glad I took it!

In reply to Stephanie. Hi Stephanie, I apologize for the late reply as I am just not getting notified of your question. This course covers primarily on compositional techniques and color theory. Most of my work is done outside using natural lighting, although there is some work done inside using natural lighting and incandescent lighting. I do not teach or shoot in a studio. OCF for the Modern Photographer with Megan Arndt is one of the BEST courses I have taken with Click Photo School. Megan has a creative approach to creating light and she openly shares her knowledge. She provides so much information in every interaction; whether doing a critique or answering questions. She answers questions and then shares her extensive knowledge on other ideas or aspects of light to consider. She built her course in a very logical sequence where the information is not overwhelming. There is a sequence to this course that builds on itself from week to week that helps to cement confidence in the use of shaping light despite experience level. Megan meets you where you are at. I was able to challenge myself. I am inspired and motivated to keep trying so many of the things learned in this course and I cannot wait to take her next class. Thank you Megan!!

This was my second Click Photo School class. Not only do you receive valuable information through out the class. The feedback you receive from the instructors is amazing. I am a hobbyist that has aspirations of becoming a professional, and the Foundations of Composition class helped take my photography to the next level. Well worth the money, and if you are town between doing the read along of the full class, the instructor feedback is well worth the incremental cost.

The course is so diverse, exploring minimalism from so many angles: color, composition, and more. It also covers the process of taking photos, selecting shots, and editing (the last three topics were particularly fascinating to me). I love the great mix of PDFs and videos, as well as the numerous prompts. But there’s so much more to discover! I highly recommend this course!

This is such an impactful class! It really changed the way I approach my photos. It encouraged me to slow down, be more intentional, and to stop and think about what actually needs to be in the frame and what can be left out. Instead of trying to capture everything, I’m now focusing more on simplicity, light, and composition. It’s made my images feel more thoughtful and refined, and it’s something I find myself applying every time I pick up my camera.

This is the most comprehensive course and I can not get enough of it! Less really is more and Jo and Krista are the perfects artists to teach about this. Jo and Krista have an amazing gift of being able to drill down their photos to only the most essential elements, and yet convey a grand sense of story. Even though I consider myself an advanced photographer, reading through the classwork left me with my mind spinning as to how I could tell better stories with less, and differently than I normally do. It is a great class for growth, and it encompasses multiple techniques and locations. This class is jam packed with information and I highly recommend it to anyone needing a fresh perspective, no matter how long they have been using a camera. Despite being a class on minamilism, this is one of the most comprehensive classes self-paced classes I have seen at CPS. It is not to be missed.

This course is great. So often we expect to have to fill the whole frames with things because so many other photographers are do. But Krista and Jo walk you through how to see and say more with less. They have inspirational images and point you to other artists that you can be inspired by. They also work through what makes a strong story and how to see the world with fewer things. Its a great course no matter what type of photographer you call yourself.

Ashley walks you through the ins and outs of her process, all the way from booking to shooting to editing. I really appreciate her editorial approach to portrait photography, as this is what I am also drawn to. I loved seeing her creative approach to posing and shooting. If you are interested in senior photography or just portraits in general, I can’t recommend this course enough!

I have just started diving into the materials and can already tell that the amount of info that Meg has included in this breakout is well worth it! The best part for me is that this is all done by hand editing, allowing me to learn how to have control over my own editing without relying on presets. She explains everything so well that it is easy for a beginner to understand but there is also so much detail and info that even someone who knows their way around Lightroom and Photoshop can learn something. I have just enrolled in this class so I can get to grips with flash. I recently purchased a Nikon SB 800 with a calumet wireless trigger. I have found the thread on the bottom of the trigger screws into my tripod, so this looks like the tripod can act as a stand (if it goes high enough). I also have a 5 in 1 reflector. Could I use the diffuser part in the middle of the reflector to create the soft light of windows I am aiming for? I want to learn as much as I can from this class and have the right equipment to practice with, but also stop myself buying bulky equipment I might not need.

I am really grateful that I took this class. This was my first Click Photo course. It’s not always easy to know if a course will be helpful, and I wasn’t sure about doing full participation or self-paced. I decided to do the full participation, and I’d recommend it. Karlee responded thoroughly to all of my assignments and questions. Her insights and feedback on my photos was really helpful. I am not new to photography, but I have had a bit of a hiatus. With so many Aha moments, this class breaks down the many ways to see and use the light. I took the full participation class and am so glad I did. Karlee answered all questions quickly and with great detail, making sure the responses were understood. While I’ve taken many courses with CPS, I found this one to be so unique. While many course offer quick tips to achieve certain photographic aesthetics or learn a new skill, this course is geared more toward photographic analysis. While there are some instant actionable steps presented in the materials, it is more about learning to read a photograph, your personal tendencies in the craft, and discovering strengths/areas for growth. The way the content is presented offers opportunities for continuous analysis over years of growth.

I’m often intimidated by the idea of elaborate set ups and extra equipment but Amy’s approach is simple and she makes things like lighting and tethering feel doable. I am quite new to the genre of food photography and Amy has economical suggestions for various props and surfaces, as well as some nifty problem solving tips which I really appreciated. This breakout is soooo helpful, especially if you just starting out and you need mentors! Chloe, Mickie and Twyla are each incredible photographers with totally different styles, so the information runs the gamut regarding prompts, settings, style priorities. I’ve watched half of the videos and so far they are very helpful. I find this aspect of photography one of the hardest parts to learn. The format of the class is entirely videos – the photographers show photos they’ve taken and explain how they captured the emotion in the images. I was expecting to see videos of actual sessions but the videos have been very helpful. Lots of great tips. And the images are all gorgeous!

I loved the step by step nature of this course as Kim takes you through her entire process, from how she interacts with families during the session, to how she edits and produces galleries. My favorite video was when she did the session with teens – it can be hard to find courses that address working with teens and it was great to read her tips in the PDF, but also see her live during a session. This is a great course for anyone looking for tips on how to handle a family session, particularly how to make them more fun for everyone involved!

I loved this class!! Self portraiture can be an intimidating endeavor but Alex does such a great job of simplifying the process. It has taken me MONTHS to write this review because I really wanted to dive deep into the material and all I can say is – WOW!!! First, the lineup of all-star instructors is just amazing. To learn from these rockstar photographers and mentors all in one course is an amazing opportunity. But the material is so well thought out, comprehensive, and will keep you learning for months (and years) to come. It can be hard to find great material for more advanced photographers but this course has it in spades. There’s so much to think through and the frameworks provided in this course will give any artist – regardless of level of experience – new areas to dive into. There is SO MUCH packed into this course and I’ve really enjoyed slowly making my way through the material, digging deep to understand “why it works”

I just started this course last night, and I can already tell it is going to be just what I need to jump into filmmaking. Lisa shares lots of information, but it’s not so much that it’s overwhelming. And I love that she tells you exactly what gear she has found works best for family films.
When I first signed up for the course, I introduced myself and posted a question for Lisa (about the best lenses for family filmmaking), and she responded within hours. I’m looking forward to learning more from Lisa in the days and weeks to come!

This was my first Click Photo School class and it exceeded my expectations. I have been out of practice for several years and I wasn’t sure how valuable this class would be considering that I knew many of the basics. This course was exactly what I needed. Megan was a great instructor and did an amazing job distilling a significant amount of information in a way that was digestible. While some of it was a refresher, there was also a lot that was new for me! I have been consistently using methods that were taught and my results have improved as a result. I haven’t used any of the presets since!

I can’t say enough good things about Megan’s Moving to Manual class. I purchased a great camera a year ago but had only been using it in Auto mode. I wanted to improve my skills, and this class was truly a game changer. Through videos, clear explanations, and her own photo examples, Megan helped me finally understand how to use my camera. The class was packed with valuable information delivered at a manageable, fun pace. It never felt overwhelming—instead, it motivated me to get out and practice. Didn’t love this course. Based on the reviews I was expecting more actionable content. Specifically, with an upcoming photo session with older kids I was hoping to get some creative posing inspiration, but the bts video with the adult children was only about 10 min long.

I have mixed feelings about this course overall. There were topics I enjoyed and found helpful—especially the Child-Led Photography section—but it felt a bit incomplete without any written materials, and one presentation was just not engaging at all.

The first thing I noticed when I looked through the sections was that it didn’t include a PDF or anything written. I have about 15 CPS courses, and this is the first one that hasn’t included something written/printable as part of the course. Depending on the course, I often get more out of the PDF than the videos, and I like to use the PDFs as quick reviews before sessions, so it was disappointing that this course didn’t include a PDF at all.

Individual topic reviews:
The Child-Led Photography section was my favorite. It has a full session behind-the-scenes video plus another video of Hilary describing her approach to child-led sessions. I enjoyed watching how she prompted & interacted with the kids during the session. I would have loved to have had a list of prompts she commonly uses included with it!

Using Framing for Storytelling was a lecture/discussion with slides and lots of photos. I got a few new ideas for framing to try out. I would have loved to have a PDF overview of this topic so I could really study the images presented in the context of the type of framing she used.

Golden Hour Play is almost entirely editing. There’s no real behind-the-scenes–those videos only show the location and a quick view of how much sun enters your frame based on camera angle–2 minutes of total video. There’s about 24 minutes of editing videos, which are great & helpful, but just know up front that you’re only really getting editing videos for this topic.

Timeless Treasures is another lecture. There were only a few pictures or slides, so it’s mostly just talking, and the presentation was just so incredibly dry that I gave up on watching it 6 minutes into the video.
