This was a great class! I took Sarah’s breakout and really wanted to learn more from her. She balances the class with technical suggestions as well as artistic. She showed us into her process on how an overlooked location can be turned into something quite magical. She’s kind, thoughtful and wants her students to learn and doesn’t hold anything back when doing so. Highly recommend!
Thank you so much, Sarah! That is really quite kind of you to say! It was so nice having you in class and hope to see more of you in the future!
Excellent class! I learned how to see new places to shoot in my everyday surroundings. I also gained confidence as a photographer and with my editing skills. Sara is a very caring and supportive teacher. She helped me along my creative journey and find the direction that I wanted to take my images.
Thank you so much, Lisa! It was wonderful to have you and get to know you! I am excited to see where your winter project will take you!!!
I really enjoyed Sarah’s class. Sarah is a very thoughtful and kind artist. She offers a great deal of insight into understanding the foundations of art such as composition, perspective, color theory, etc. She’s open, honest, and very responsive with her students. She’s willing to go above and beyond to see her students make progress and reach their goals. Although I feel this course is best suited for beginner to early pro students, the material is so thorough students of all backgrounds and experience levels will walk away with increased knowledge. Overall a delightful course with the sweetest instructor.
That is so kind of you, Chelsea!!!
I loved this class! This class will challenge you wherever you are on your photography journey to be more intentional with using light, perspective, angles, color. Sarah is an inspirational teacher and so encouraging! She helped me grow as an artist by sharing her extensive knowledge, experience and talent. The PDF’s were thought provoking and challenging, the‘Behind the Scenes’ videos helpful and her critiques on my work were specific and thorough. I always felt like Sarah believed in me as an artist and really cared about me becoming a better photographer. I highly recommend this class!
Oh wow, thank you so much Terry! It was such a joy to have you and hope to see more of your beautiful work in the future!
I look Sarah’s break out last year when I was in an editing identity crisis and was amazed with the content. I can honestly say that breakout helped me “find my style” more than any other class/course I have taken. So when I saw Sarah was teaching this course, I knew I had to sign up. I work full time and have a hard time keeping up with assignments so I opted for the study along. Even as a study along, this course did not disappoint. I am at the point in my photography journey where my images are technically sound and my editing style is more consistent. However, I typically use basic composition rules and feel that my images often lack that wow factor. I love how Sarah, teaches about tried and true art composition tools and how their use in photography can strengthen your images. I find myself looking at locations differently now and thinking more creatively about how I can manipulate the environment or manipulate myself to make my images stronger. This was a fantastic class especially if you want to dig a little deeper into what makes a good image. The PDFs are beautiful and informative. Sarah is also very thorough in her videos explaining her processes and techniques. Even though I took the study along version, I have followed along with some of the discussion threads and her advice and critiques are great. My only regret is that I could not commit to do the full participation because I think personal critiques and advice from Sarah would be very helpful!
Brittnay! Your comment made my day! Thank you so much!
I took Sarah’s breakout last year and when I heard she was teaching a new workshop, I knew I had to sign up. Sarah provides very in depth PDFs and videos detailing her thought process, workflow, set-up, etc. She was incredibly responsive to questions and sincerely wanted to see everyone grow in their art and was willing to record additional video responses to make sure the information and feedback was clear. I was so impressed to see how Sarah could turn mundane shooting locations (places I would have walked passed without giving them a second glance) and turn them into magic. The course gave me new inspiration to look at the world around me and see how I can transform small pockets of nature into something beautiful. Additionally, week 1 material was really fascinating to me; I do not have an art background so to have photography broken down from an artist’s perspective was a fresh take and gave me a new way of thinking through photography. Thank you Sarah!
Thank you, Nicole! I also love week 1 so much! It is very special to me and glad you enjoyed it!
This is a beautiful class. Sarah’s artist’s eye allows her to take an artful approach to shooting and editing. She provides many shooting and editing videos so you can not only see the final product but her thought process throughout. She’s extremely responsive and gives the supportive and constructive comments we all need to grow. I enjoyed the many “editing tricks” she shared with the class and will incorporate many of them in my regular work flow moving forward.
I took this class to break me out of a creative rut, and it worked – I’m excited to shoot again and inspired to continue making art.
Thank you, Laura! I am so glad you worked out of your rut and found creativity and inspiration to shoot again!
This is an excellent workshop! The material is detailed and eye-opening, and Sarah is so kind and encouraging. It’s helping me to appreciate the everyday spaces I am in and to see possibilities I hadn’t noticed before. Sarah really helps you build your visual toolkit so you can be mindful of the spaces you are in, and provides thoughtful exercises that help you strengthen your use of these tools so you can create beautiful images anywhere. I’m so glad I took this workshop—thank you, Sarah, for offering it!
Thank you, Christina! I absolutely loved having you!
I love this workshop because it’s like Sarah is sitting right there with you, teaching you everything she’s passionate about. Her video instruction is so great to have and the PDFs are beautiful and jam packed with info. She has truly put her heart and soul into the content. There is a ton of information and something new to learn and practice each week. I live in an are where there are tons of great locations. What I love most about this is that it has taught me to think more creatively about my surroundings and find locations that really push me and my artistry. I find that it has opened my eyes to using my surroundings more creatively, and that’s so exciting! Thank you, Sarah!
Awww, Ebony! Thank you for saying that! It made my day!
This class was wonderful. I love Sarah’s photography in general, so I was so excited to see this class come up. If you liked her breakout from last year, you will love this class. The techniques she teaches in the course can translate to all kinds of photography. My favorite parts of this class was seeing how she shot in small ordinary locations and made them into dramatic and beautiful images. The editing portion in week 4 was a dream. Sarah’s attention to detail and easy step by step videos, transformed my images and the way I think about editing in general. I loved this class and hope Sarah will teach another in the future.
That is so kind of you to say, Kristin! Thank you so much for everything and loved having you!
What a great workshop! Sarah is a fantastic teacher and very knowledge. Every PDF and video is packed with so much inspirational content for every photographer no matter where they are in their career. My favorite was especially Week 1! I got so much out of it even being a SA! Thank you for putting together a wonderful workshop Sarah!
Thank you, Jyo!!!! I really appreciate that coming from you!
I loved Sarah’s break-out and was thrilled to learn from her again in this course. She provided the tools and compositional elements she uses to create her own amazing images. Each week built on the prior week as we took a deep dive into the tools. I think my favorite part was the section in week 2 where we got to see pull-backs of small, ordinary spaces and the extraordinary end results that Sarah created. Of course, the editing in week 4 was also fantastic. I love Sarah’s work and it was a gift to walk through her process step by step and discover how she approaches editing in different lighting situations. Sarah spent a lot of time providing meaningful feedback on assignments and she gave students an opportunity to discuss the material and ask questions during live, face-to-face discussions each week.
Thank you, Karen! You are so kind when mentioning week 4- so glad you enjoyed it! I loved having you!
The content was very informative and I learned to look at locations with a detailed eye to produce stronger images. The final week is powerful- many videos on how to edit. Sara is very knowledgeable and shares her thought process in detail. She is very kind and helpful. The class improved my skills for shooting and editing.
I am glad that you connected with the material and applied what you learned. You have grown so much in the four week period and I can’t wait to see more of your work in the future. It was a joy to have you in class!
Fantastic class! Sarah is super attentive and responsive. I received great feedback on assignments. I felt Sarah took great pride as an instructor in communicating her knowledge and skills to all the participants. This course is worth the investment of not only the cost but your time. The PDF’s are great, Sarah’s explanations of how and why she does certain things are clear and concise!! I felt like I was learning from a friend. I look forward to taking other classes that Sarah may teach.
Thank you so much, Christina! This means so much to me, especially when you felt like you were learning from a friend. I always hope to come across like that as I teach. It was a joy to have you in class and can’t wait to see you more in the near future!
